About The Project
The French Railway project involved producing detailed 2D CAD drawings and PDF documentation for over 50 km (31 miles) of railway infrastructure. This transportation Cad project, commissioned by a France-based surveying company, was part of an annual inspection process intended to ensure that the electrical railway met European operational and safety standards. The project required the drawing of over 300 electrical poles, covering the entire 50 km (31 miles) stretch of railway. The scope included 330 electrical poles, specifically electrical poles supporting the overhead line system, distributed along the line to support ongoing inspections and verify compliance with evolving safety regulations.
The infrastructure featured 7 distinct types of electrical poles, with each type having over 10 typical size variations, resulting in 328 unique poles. This diversity in pole design and sizing made every electrical pole unique in its characteristics, requiring precise documentation to reflect the exact conditions of each electrical component. Utilizing LIDAR technology, we transformed point cloud data into accurate 2D CAD drawings and PDF files. These deliverables provided the client with essential resources for conducting inspections, identifying structural variations, and ensuring the railway’s long-term operational stability.
By meticulously mapping and documenting the railway’s electrical poles, this project enabled the client to maintain the integrity of the electrical infrastructure, streamline annual inspection processes, and address potential maintenance issues proactively.
Project Challenges & Deliverables
The French Railway electrical pole CAD project required the expertise of our engineering and CAD teams to meet the project’s demanding schedule and ensure accuracy. A major challenge was the tight turnaround time. We committed to delivering 50 poles per week, requiring our teams to work in 24/7 shifts to meet the client’s strict inspection deadlines. This ensured that all CAD drawings maintained high precision without compromising quality. The unique nature of each electrical pole added complexity, with 7 distinct types of poles and over 10 size variations per type, each of the 330 poles required individual attention.
Our engineering and CAD experts meticulously analyzed the LIDAR point cloud data, ensuring the exact dimensions and characteristics of each pole were accurately reflected in the 2D CAD drawings. We provided our client with detailed CAD drawings and PDF documentation for the electrical poles along the 50 km (31 miles) railway line. This solution successfully supported their annual inspection process, enabling efficient monitoring and maintenance of the railway’s electrical infrastructure in compliance with European safety standards.
