About The Project
The community special school in Dublin is part of Ireland’s nationwide initiative to improve educational infrastructure, aimed at enhancing learning environments for students with special educational needs. Tasked by an Irish Surveying Company, we were engaged to model the 270,000 SF school campus and its surrounding transportation infrastructure, which includes a mix of buildings, greenhouses, sports courts, playgrounds, parking areas, as well as city roads and sidewalks.
To meet the project’s diverse needs, we delivered a comprehensive set of BIM solutions, including a LOD 350 BIM model for the exterior of the school buildings, specialized heritage building modeling to accurately reflect the historical elements of the site, a detailed surface and site area plan incorporating key external features, and a complete transportation infrastructure model, crucial for both the renovation and future development of the area. The project required addressing a range of unique requirements, each demanding specialized expertise and precise modeling. Our multidisciplinary team worked collaboratively to ensure the seamless integration of the site’s various features, from the modern school buildings to the historical structures and external infrastructure, aligning all components with municipal regulations and the client’s needs.
By leveraging cutting-edge technologies and a cohesive modeling strategy, we ensured that our client received a reliable and detailed model. The result supports the ongoing renovation of the community school and provides a foundation for future developments, guiding the transformation of the school into a modern, well-integrated educational facility.
Project Challenges & Deliverables
The community school project presented a range of complex requirements due to its diverse and multi-disciplinary nature. Modeling this large school campus, including its surrounding transportation infrastructure, required specialized expertise in several areas. One of the key challenges was the substantial transportation infrastructure, which included large, detailed road networks that required careful modeling to ensure their accuracy and integration within the broader site plan. Additionally, the modeling of the site area presented its own complexities, particularly when accounting for various elements such as parking areas, playgrounds, sports courts, and more.
The dense building environment surrounding the school created difficulties in accurately identifying and modeling exterior features, making it essential to utilize advanced modeling techniques to ensure every element was represented with precision. For the heritage buildings, we employed specialized "model in place" techniques to accurately capture the intricate ornamentation and historical features of these structures, ensuring their preservation in the final BIM model. In parallel with the modeling of the modern buildings, our multidisciplinary team addressed both the heritage and contemporary structures, integrating them into the same cohesive, high-accuracy BIM model. This simultaneous approach was crucial in ensuring both elements, despite their vastly different characteristics, were aligned with the same level of detail and accuracy.
Our multidisciplinary team worked in parallel across all these areas, enabling us to overcome these challenges and deliver a highly detailed, precise BIM model that met all client requirements. The result supports the ongoing renovation of the school and provides a foundation for future developments, guiding the transformation of the school into a modern, well-integrated educational facility.
