LOD 350 - BIM Model
About The Project
A large Irish-based surveying company approached Point-Sol to create a comprehensive BIM model for a 250,000 square feet central hospital in Ireland, which consists of several buildings aimed for massive expansion. The project required modeling both the interior and exterior of the hospital, along with the surrounding landscape and site area, to gain a deep understanding of the infrastructure and potential for future expansion.
To meet our client’s requirements, we leveraged advanced LIDAR and photogrammetry technologies to capture precise measurements of the site. The resulting point cloud data was then carefully processed and analyzed, enabling us to construct an exceptionally accurate and detailed model. The BIM model included detailed façade modeling, structural elements, and MEP (mechanical, electrical, plumbing) systems. Additionally, we carefully modeled the surrounding surfaces and site area, providing a complete and precise representation of the current and future state of the hospital.
Through this approach, we delivered an accurate and integrated LOD 350 BIM model, enabling the client to make informed decisions for both managing the existing infrastructure and planning future expansion.
Project Challenges & Deliverables
Modeling a hospital is a complex and multifaceted task, and this project was no exception. The hospital consisted of several tightly clustered buildings, each with its own unique design and intricate details. This made the modeling process significantly more challenging due to the buildings' close proximity and the unique exterior designs. One of the primary challenges was the difficulty in capturing ground elements, as the lack of line of sight during scanning hindered visibility. Despite this limitation, these elements were crucial to the model and needed to be accurately identified and incorporated. Our team applied their expertise to fill in the missing data, ensuring that all key ground elements were captured with high precision.
Another significant challenge involved the accurate modeling of the surfaces. The entire renovation and construction process heavily depended on these surfaces, and any inaccuracies in their modeling could have led to costly errors or delays. By ensuring a precise representation of the surfaces, we enabled the client to make informed, reliable decisions regarding the hospital's future expansion and development. Modeling the buildings’ facades, structures, and systems required a high level of detail to ensure that the model represented both the current state and the potential for future growth.
Ultimately, we successfully delivered a comprehensive BIM model at LOD 350, encompassing both interior and exterior architectural elements of the hospital. This provided the client with a precise and reliable foundation for the renovation and expansion of the facility.
